Student Ambassadors

The Counseling and Career Centre of the University of Ostrava also has its ambassadors. They help us with promotion, have the opportunity to actively participate in university-wide events, go to high schools and last but not least help students and applicants to get as much information as possible about the fields, faculties and the university. If you are interested, don't hesitate to contact them!

student of the 1st year of the Master's programme Development and Management in Social Work

Faculty of Social Studies

After graduating from high school, I was clear that I wanted to study something that involved working with people. I wanted to stay somewhere nearby, so I chose the University of Ostrava, where I am currently studying the first year of the Master's programme Development and Management in Social Work. I really enjoy studying social work, I like the facilities and support of a large university and the personal approach of our small faculty. I don't think I could have made a better choice. During our undergraduate studies, we took a lot of courses focused on communication, psychology or even law. However, the fact that you study social work does not necessarily mean that you must then pursue it, studying this particular field will give you a lot of professional knowledge that you will also use in everyday life, and certainly in other jobs. But that is not my case, I am already working in the social sphere and I certainly do not intend to stop. I'm happy to share my experience with other students and give advice!

student of the 3rd year of the bachelor's degree programme Mathematics with a focus on education with a specialisation in Mathematics - Information and Communication Technologies (with a focus on education for primary school)

I am a person who deals with everything spontaneously and follows their heart. Since I was a kid I had planned to sometime in the future teach mathematics, which I really enjoyed, and imagined being a teacher. I enrolled at the local high school and for fun I also chose some IT field at the electrical engineering school because I enjoyed working with computers. I got into both schools and by some miracle my mind sent me to the industrial college. Here, throughout the 4 years, I have confirmed to myself that that world is not for me, and I have had a better and better relationship with mathematics thanks to a great math teacher! After graduation, I dropped the idea of teaching because I thought IT was better and I could overcome the resistance I had built up to it. Fortunately, my subconscious woke up, illuminated me one night, and I applied among the last ones for the second round of the selection procedure at the University of Ostrava for mathematics teaching. And honestly? It was the best thing I could have done!! I've made great friends, met lots of new people and also experienced the fair and friendly attitude of the teachers. I like that each student is treated individually and we are not just numbers. Besides, Ostrava is a beautiful and unique industrial city that is worth studying in. I will be happy to help you with anything, just write or call :-). I look forward to seeing you soon.

student of the 2nd year of the follow-up Master's degree programme Teaching for the 2nd level of primary school - Physical education and Information and communication technologies focused on education

Faculty of Education

My first steps at universities didn't lead me to UO, I was at VŠB for a year and only then I found out which part of Ostrava was better :-D. I am very happy at the UO, I like the team, not only my classmates, but also the team that we form with the teachers. A friendly, personal but professional approach is what I think describes the UO Faculty of Arts. During my studies I learned how to communicate with people, how to speak in front of them, how to work effectively and correctly with children. The UO has also given me a great opportunity and experience in the form of ambassadorship, where we participate in all kinds of UO events, but also provide counselling services to applicants, students and alumni. I am very glad that I chose Ostrava for my studies, because there is a lot of cultural activities, sports events and much more. Of course, I must not forget the great restaurants, cafes and pubs :-D. I can't wait to tell you about my student life experiences!

student of the 3rd year of the Bachelor's programme Opera singing

Faculty of Arts

My name is TerezieGilligová.
I am currently studying opera singing at the Faculty of Arts. I will be starting my first year of my Master's degree in September. I've been singing since I was a little girl, maybe since I started talking. Before the faculty, I was in high school. It took me a while to decide that I really wanted to dedicate my life to singing and have a career as an artist. It was finally decided by a certain national competition. At the final concert I discovered how beautiful it is to convey emotions through singing and give joy to people. So I applied to Ostrava University right after high school and I went directly to a professor who was preparing me for college and we got along very well. I am really happy here. Especially after grammar school, I'm happy that I'm finally doing things of my focus, like singing, acting, dancing, and theater. I also like Ostrava itself. Walks around the river, lots of events and venues, wine bars, cafes where you can go to relax or for entertainment. Not to mention the number of theatres our Ostrava has. Although it may not seem it at first sight, Ostrava is really a cultural city!!! I look forward to presenting it to you together with the University of Ostrava!

Faculty of Arts

I am in my fifth year at the Faculty of Arts and I certainly wouldn't change anything. The freedom, human approach, interest, friendly atmosphere and expert advice that new students at the Faculty of Arts receive from more experienced students, lecturers and staff at the University is beyond gold. The Faculty of Arts offers many interesting courses and workshops, with a variety of great local and international teachers. The many opportunities for study abroad, work placements and graduate internships offer graduates almost certain employment. We also have a great background when it comes to digital technologies, from 3D printers, UV printing, Laser, to graphic tablets, etc. So don't hesitate and come and see it for yourself!

Bc. Lucie Krátká
student of the 1st year of the Master's degree programme Teaching of Biology and Physical Education

Faculty of Science

Hi, my name is Lucka. I studied at the Pavel Tigrid Language Grammar School. I initially applied to the UO because of the wide range of opportunities to travel abroad with the Erasmus programme and the chance to use my French from high school for future study and travel.
I was born in Ostrava, I have a lot of friends and my family here. Apart from becoming independent and exploring new cities, nothing tempted me to leave. :D
I've been playing and coaching volleyball for a long time, so I didn't want to leave my teammates and especially the little promising future athletes. I applied for the Teacher's College basically by chance, I originally chose the Faculty of Medicine - General Medicine, but in the end the Teacher's College of Biology and Physical Education won my heart. I've been playing sports since I was a kid and the human body has always interested me, so both biology and physical education fulfilled my expectations. The UO offers a large number of part-time jobs. I took advantage of one of them and made it all the way here, as an ambassador. There is certainly no doubt that I have made a lot of new friends, gained a lot of love, and had a lot of new experiences thanks to the UO.
Of course, every faculty brings interesting new things. For me, I can recommend the Faculty of Science and Education with great satisfaction. If you want to study and have fun at the same time, this is a great combination!
I look forward to telling you more about our student life.

Ondřej Pernecký
Ondřej Pernecký
student of the 5th year of the Master's degree programme Geography and Physical Education for Secondary Schools

Faculty of Science

Hi, my name is Ondra and I'm in the final year of my Master's degree in Geography and Physical Education for Secondary Schools. By having two types of majors, science and education, I study both at the science and education faculty. Officially, though, I fall under the science faculty.
When I finished high school, I was deciding between OSU and UPOL. After the entrance exams, however, Ostravská clearly won. I already had the feeling that people were at least a little bit interested in me and that I wasn't just a number on a piece of paper. They asked me if I knew where to go next, because the different parts of the entrance exams were in different parts of the city, they guided me and explained everything. Being from the Ostrava area, it was an obvious choice for me after this experience. I started studying here in our country and to this day I am grateful for that decision. I have found a great group of people at the school who make my studies fun. Being a gym teacher takes specific character traits like a sense of humour, a bit of silliness and a sense of humour again, because you won't find a funnier bunch than us! Studying at UO has brought me to a lot of interesting people who have taught me a lot outside of academia, but most importantly, it has given me friends for life. And for that I thank the University of Ostrava and I hope that if we ever meet here, you will have the same impressions as I did!

student of the 4th year of the Master's degree programme in General Medicine

Faculty of Medicine

After graduating from high school in Karviná, I decided to apply to Ostrava to study General Medicine. This is my third year studying here and I'm really glad I chose it. The study is interesting and I enjoy it very much. Practical training is very beneficial as we are in small groups so we can try more things. And the great thing is that a student can also enroll in courses from other faculties, not only from the Faculty of Medicine. I will be happy to introduce you to our industry and I look forward to your questions.

I have been a part of Ostrava University for six years now and I must admit that it has grown so close to my heart that I am continuing my studies in the follow-up Ph.D. programme after graduating from medicine. I fell in love with Ostrava, its atmosphere and surroundings, even though I come from Slovácko in southern Moravia. Studying at Ostrava University gave me an endless amount of knowledge, skills, experiences and contacts, including my life partner. And what does UO mean to me? Very shortly - endless possibilities of self-realization. I will be happy to share my experience with you.

student of the 3rd year of the bachelor's study programme Czech Language and Literature

Faculty of Arts

After graduating from high school, Ostrava was not my first choice, although I was drawn to the cultural and student life that made my years at university so enjoyable. But as it happens, life often sends you where it thinks you will be good, and that's how I got to the University of Ostrava. The field of study was clear, given my love for the Czech language and Czech literature. I chose the faculty because I wanted to really delve into the depth of our wonderful language. Here, I have come to understand the importance of studying somewhere where your school cares about you and gives you incredible support both in your career progression and in your personal life. I definitely wouldn't change it and I'm glad I'm studying at a university that cares about its students and supports their projects. Ostrava itself is a place of experience and culture. In the very first week I made great friends here, with whom we did a lot of things in Ostrava, and thanks to the dorms of the University of Ostrava, our life didn't stop even during the coronavirus, which I am very glad for. I look forward to introducing you to student life at the University of Ostrava.
