AnotationThe goal of the proposed one-year project is to analyze and describe the linguistic means for expressing emotionality in plain language. Texts in plain language are primarily intended for non-native speakers or individuals with difficulties understanding the commonly used language. Clarity takes precedence in plain language, and such texts are characterized by a simple syntactic structure, a low frequency of foreign words and technical terms, and, among other things, the absence of complex metaphors. Emotionality, as the overall emotional potential of a text encompassing three layers: expression of emotions, description of emotions and evocation of emotions, is a highly complex phenomenon, where it is necessary to consider the way how it could be applied to the plain language. The analyzed corpus for this project will be the work 'Good Bye, Lenin!' by Eva Dix (2015) in plain language, which is a book adaptation of the same-called German tragicomedy by director Wolfgang Becker (2003). The project will primarily focus on the analysis and comparison of linguistic means for expressing emotionality and their intralingual transfer between the screenplay of Bernd Lichtenberg's film (2003) and the version in plain language. The motivation for submitting this project is to support the independent research activities of a third-year doctoral student whose doctoral thesis deals with the issue of barrier-free communication, with an emphasis on the means of expressing emotionality and its transfer in an intersemiotic and intralingual context. Except for presenting interim results at domestic and international conferences, the project's output will be an peer-reviewed article summarizing the research results.
