AnotationSubject of research: a comic opera composed in 1901 by the Czech-Viennese duo Antonín Matoušek (libretto) and Jaromír Herle (music) and performed by members of the elite society Slovanská beseda in Vienna. The uniqueness of this type of opera is enhanced by the fact that it deals with the hesitation of Bohumil Vlasák (1871-1945), a member of the society, in the sense of "should I remain single or get married?". The opera is therefore an artistic document of an important phenomenon of the time: it approaches the subject humorously, and the accompanying archival material in the form of the magazine Motýl (the magazine Fellows? Club of the Slavic Society) has the same character. The proposer of the SGS project recently tracked down several issues of this handwritten periodical (the opera is discussed on many pages), and had previously come across the autograph of the opera in the Czech Museum of Music. Method: In this state, it is possible to proceed with comprehensive research into the opera, i.e., to clarify its genesis, introduce its creators and performers, describe the plot, evaluate its performance, and subsequently transcribe the manuscript of the piano reduction into computer notation. Objectives: The creation of a critical edition is a prerequisite for the opera's revival (planned in Ostrava, Prague, and Vienna) by artists associated with the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava (students, graduates, academics) as part of the Tvůrčí OU platform in 2026 (with the possibility of partial financing from external sources). A student and an academic who has been studying the musical history of the Slavs in Vienna for many years will join forces to prepare a new version of the piano reduction and accompany it with a music-historiographical and interpretative-analytical text.
