AnotationThe rapid development of generative artificial intelligence is reshaping university teaching and raises questions about its pedagogical use, risks, and institutional implications (Lee et al., 2024; Bearman et al., 2022). How AI is framed within academia significantly influences teachers? attitudes, decision-making, and the implementation of these technologies (Bearman et al., 2022). Research shows that university teachers? professional beliefs play a key role in whether and how they use AI in teaching, with attitudes shaped by prior experience and perceived benefits and risks (Cabellos et al., 2024; Acosta-Enriquez et al., 2025). Yet empirically validated tools for systematically examining links between beliefs and AI use practices in higher education remain limited. The project focuses on developing and adapting instruments designed to investigate university teachers? professional beliefs and teaching practices related to generative AI. The questionnaire will be adapted using forward?backward translation (Andrews & Diego-Mantecón, 2014) followed by pilot testing through cognitive interviewing to identify semantic and interpretive issues in items (Hargraves et al., 2021). The qualitative part will apply open coding and reflexive thematic analysis. The project is grounded in current debates on the transformation of higher education in the era of AI and builds on existing findings regarding teachers? approaches to AI in their pedagogical practice. It also draws on the research orientation of the project team: it builds on the principal investigator?s master?s thesis on AI use in lesson planning and extends the thematic focus of the co-researcher?s bachelor thesis, providing foundations for her subsequent master?s research. The project will produce piloted tools that deepen understanding of how professional beliefs shape teaching practice and of the role AI may play in the future of university education.
