AnotationThe project focuses on current research issues in two geographical disciplines, political and cultural geography, as well as economic geography and regional development. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the ways in which both disciplines can contribute to the understanding of current issues abroad. The importance of the project lies in the discussion of a wide range of geographical topics and applied methods as well as the involvement of researchers and students at different stages of their careers. The sub-objectives of the project are based on the individual research topics. This includes research on nationalist music in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a specific form of soft power; research on the far right in Portugal; mapping the complex situation of migrant workers in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus; focusing on the manosphere (a set of anti-democratic, misogynistic, ultra-conservative and anti-LGBT narratives) as part of Russian soft power; research on consociational democracy in post-conflict North Macedonia in comparison with the model example of Switzerland; the topic of Azerbaijan and the focus on its mineral resources, or rather the ambition is to find out whether Azerbaijani oil and natural gas represent a real opportunity for the EU's energy security and geopolitical autonomy in relation to the EU's long-term transition to renewable energy sources.
