AnotationThe project focuses on the study of the coordination of growth?defence processes and the functional plasticity of the photosynthetic apparatus in higher plants exposed to different light and temperature conditions. Particular attention will be paid to the mechanisms that regulate the allocation of assimilated carbon between structural compounds supporting growth and secondary defensive metabolites, especially phenolic compounds with antioxidant functions. The role of environmental factors (light intensity and spectral quality, temperature including short-term stress fluctuations) in shaping the balance between growth and the synthesis of protective metabolites, as well as their temporal dynamics, will be evaluated. In parallel, the structural?functional plasticity of thylakoid membranes and photosystems will be investigated using advanced absorption-based methods of electrochromic shift and P700 redox state measurements, allowing the characterization of proton motive force, cyclic electron transport, and membrane reorganization during acclimation to specific environmental conditions. The research team, consisting of doctoral and masters students in biophysics, will address two sub-projects that extend the scope of their dissertation or diploma theses. The project will deepen the current research activities at the Department of Physics, University of Ostrava, support the development and optimization of analytical methods available at the laboratory, and enable international collaboration with the University of Pécs. Collaboration on the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and the presentation of results at seminars or scientific conferences is also expected.
