| Anotation | Dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, represents a significant health problem in connection with an aging population and the absence of effective causal treatment. Existing diagnostic procedures, such as cerebrospinal fluid analysis or brain PET scans, are financially demanding or burdensome for the patient. However, new findings show that the determination of the p-tau217 biomarker from blood plasma can provide a comparably reliable but significantly more accessible and less invasive alternative. The aim of the project is to compare different analytical approaches - the Single Molecule Array (Simoa) method, electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA), and multiplex flow cytometry immunoassay - for measuring plasma p-tau217 levels in patients with cognitive impairment (both Alzheimer's and non-Alzheimer's types) and in healthy controls. The results may contribute to the validation of a simpler and more effective diagnostic procedure for the early detection of Alzheimer's disease. |
