AnotationResidents of Malawi live in primitive conditions without access to potable water and electricity. The health of the local population is negatively affected by droughts resulting in a lack of food of their own production, poverty and poor access to health care. In these areas, data on the morbidity of infectious and non-infectious diseases, as well as data on the general state of health, are not known. Health screening is a necessity if we are to target interventions in these areas. Treatment for priority diseases (HIV, tuberculosis) is locally available thanks to financial support from multinational organizations. The problem is that local health facilities lack diagnostic facilities due to lack of equipment, they are unable to detect the diseases. The aim of the project is to implement health screening of the population in selected areas of Malawi. The screening will focus on priority infectious and non-infectious diseases. It will include measurement of blood pressure, glycaemia and total cholesterol, and assessment of nutritional status. It will also include testing for infectious diseases of global importance, especially HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis B and C and syphilis. Cancer screening, specifically a fecal occult blood test, will also be included. A test for serum vitamin D levels will also be included. 200 people will be examined.
