AnotationThe research project focuses on the experience of quarter-life crisis in young adults. It is a topic based on recent research on adult development. The main aim of the project is to describe the characteristics of psychosocial functioning of people experiencing different degrees of quarter-life crisis. Another aim is to identify risk and protective factors involved in quarter-life crisis. The research project will be divided into two studies that build on the project's objectives: the first study will examine the basic characteristics of quarter-life crisis in relation to demographic variables and the degree of manifestation in the target group, including a comparison of the situation after the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the second study will be to identify the protective and risk factors that contribute to its development. The quarter-life crisis is based on the current developmental model, which deals with identity crisis in young adulthood (about 25-35 years) and according to existing research, it may be fully manifested in up to half of the target population. Quantitative research will be conducted through online data collection using self-report methods to identify quarter-life crisis, possible protective factors (life satisfaction, social support, self-esteem, self-efficacy, meaning in life) and possible risk factors (perceived stress, negative emotionality, turning points in life). The research population will consist of adults aged 18-40 years from the general population, so that the age groups before and after the period usually associated with a quarter-life crisis are also included. The quarter-life crisis is strongly linked to characteristics and norms in a given culture, as it results from the demands of a society that expects a person to fulfill specific developmental tasks at a certain age. It is therefore important to identify its manifestations and characteristics in a particular culture, including the Czech Republic.
