AnotationThe research project called The characteristics of the short story cycle in Czech literature of the XXth century is based on the fact that in Czech system of literary genres the short story cycle is not understood as a separate genre of fiction. In this way Czech thinking about literature radically differs from Anglo-Saxon context, in which the short story cycle is paid systematical attention especially in the last decades. The aim of the project is to generalize the main ideas of foreign research workers dealing with this topic, to describe the main features of the genre in general, and then - by means of an analysis of Czech short story cycles - to characterize specific features of the genre in Czech fiction of the XXth century. The research work will contribute to studying of those types of fiction, in which we can feel a tension between relatively stabilized short and long fiction (especially between the short story and the novel).
