Annotation:
Migration is a social phenomenon that has been present throughout history and remains a central feature of contemporary societies. It often evokes feelings of fear and anxiety, both within receiving (host) societies and among migrants themselves as newcomers.
The course aims to clarify the basic concepts and migration movements associated with the sociology of migration. Students will gain a foundational orientation in this social issue, which is essential for a deeper understanding of migration processes as a specific social phenomenon.
Through selected texts, students will become familiar with the key mechanisms and dimensions of migration. Theoretical knowledge will be complemented by concrete examples drawn from social practice.
The course will be held in English. Some materials may be in the Czech language, and Czech-speaking students also have the option to take the oral final examination in the Czech language.
