| Anotation | Emotional regulation is a process that influences social functioning, mental health, and adaptation to stress. Difficulties in emotional regulation are associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms, anxiety, problem behavior, and impaired psychosocial development (Bellato et al., 2024; Donofry et al., 2016; Compas et al., 2017). An internationally used tool for its assessment is the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), with the short form DERS-18 showing a stable factor structure in different populations (Victor & Klonsky, 2016). However, previous validation studies have focused mainly on adolescents and adults (Hallion et al., 2018), and there is no validated version suitable for younger school-age children in the Czech environment. The project therefore includes a psychometric assessment of the Czech version of DERS-18 in children aged 9?13 years and its relationship to other parameters of emotional or behavioral difficulties. The biological mechanism associated with emotional dysregulation is the function of the autonomic nervous system, which can be assessed through heart rate variability (HRV). Lower HRV is considered an indicator of increased psychophysiological stress and poorer adaptation to stress (Thayer et al., 2012; Michels et al., 2013; Chen et al., 2023). However, current knowledge in the non-clinical child population is limited and inconclusive (Bellato et al.,2024). Socioeconomic status (SES) is also an important determinant of children's psychosocial development. Different SES indicators capture different domains of living conditions and may lead to different conclusions about the relationship between SES and psychological or physiological indicators (Letourneau et al., 2011; Braveman et al., 2005). The project therefore also focuses on comparing selected methods of measuring SES in the context of emotional regulation and HRV. The findings will inform a methodological framework supporting the dissertation?s research questions. |
