AnotationHuman papillomaviruses (HPV) are the causative agents of sexually transmitted infections, which are considered to be among the most widespread infections worldwide. Based on their oncogenic potential, they are classified as low-risk and high-risk HPV types. High-risk HPV types can initiate carcinogenesis and are responsible for about 4.5% of all cancers worldwide. In women, they are frequently associated with precancerous lesions or cancers of the cervix, vulva, or vagina, and in men with penile cancer. In both sexes, HPV infection may lead to anal cancer, head and neck cancers, and cancers of the oropharyngeal region. The aim of the project is detection and typization of HPV infection in patients with various stages of cervical dysplasia or HPV-associated anogenital cancers, and to analyse relationships between the occurrence of low-risk and high-risk HPV types, diagnostic and clinical indicators, HPV vaccination, risk factors, and health literacy. Patients who agree to participate in the study will undergo cervical sampling. Detection and typization of HPV in cervical swab samples will be performed using the real-time PCR at the National Reference Laboratory for Papillomaviruses and Polyomaviruses at the Institute of Health in Ostrava. Participants will also complete a questionnaire aimed at identifying protective and risk factors and assessing health literacy related to HPV. The collected data will be evaluated using statistical methods. Determining the prevalence of individual HPV types in patients from oncogynecology will provide new insights into links between specific HPV types and diagnostic-clinical indicators. Combining information on the HPV vaccination status of patients, the occurrence of risk factors, and the level of health literacy will provide a better understanding of the effectiveness of preventive measures and the factors influencing the development and severity of HPV-associated precancerous lesions and carcinomas of the female genital tract.
