The Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Ostrava announces a job vacancy

  • VP3 Key Researcher in the LERCO project
    (In the case of an applicant with the academic title of Ph.D./doc./prof., it may also include an appropriate academic position as an assistant professor/associate professor/full professor at the department)


The open vacancy is announced within the framework of the Life Environment Research Center Ostrava (LERCO, reg. no. CZ.10.03.01/00/22_003/0000003), Research Program 3 (Modeling and Simulation), Main Activity 3 (Molecular Modeling).

For applicants with a suitable profile and pedagogical experience, it may also include a systematized position as an academic staff member in the Department of Physics.

Expected start date

  • 1st of March, 2024 (or by agreement)

Estimated amount of work

  • 50 % (or by agreement)

Qualifications and other requirements

  • University education at the III. level, at least 5 years of experience in research
  • Ph.D. in the field of chemical physics, physical chemistry, biophysics, structural biology, or a related field
  • English at least at the B2 level
  • EU research level: R2 – Recognized/R3 – Established researcher
  • Long-term achievement of outstanding scientific performance in the field of molecular modeling, computational chemical physics, or biophysics (representation of publications in top journals in the field as the first or corresponding author; as of the start date, at least 30 publications in impact factor journals, at least 1000 citations, and an H-index according to WoS of at least 15)
  • Research using molecular modeling in the areas of biophysics or structural biology is an advantage
  • Willingness to collaborate with VP1 "Molecular Biology and Genomics" and VP2 "Biochemical and Biophysical Methods of Analyzing Biological Systems"
  • Experience in leading of scientific projects (at least one successfully solved project with a national grant agency or a comparable level as the principal investigator)
  • Experience in supervising students (at least one successful graduate)
  • Capability of communication in Czech at least at the B1 level
  • International experience (documented by at least one-year postdoctoral fellowship at a renowned foreign institution, established international collaboration documented by joint publications)
  • Communication in Czech at least at the B1 level

In the case of expanding the position to an academic staff member

  • Experience in supervising university qualification theses
  • Experience in leading of bachelor and master courses

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • Independently solving complex scientific research/development tasks in the field of molecular modeling and development of force fields
  • Collaboration within the research team and with foreign researchers
  • Contribution to research projects preparation
  • Active publication activity in the field of HA3
  • Mentoring Ph.D. students involved in solving HA3

In the case of expanding the position to an academic staff member:

  • Supervising master's and exceptionally Ph.D. theses, opposing final theses
  • Leading doctoral and master study courses

The first round of the selection procedure will take place without the personal presence of the candidates by the assessment of the submitted materials by the selection committee.

The Dean of the Faculty reserves the right to invite only selected candidates to a personal meeting and also the right not to select any candidate. The selection procedure may be cancelled or repeated at the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty.
