The Dean of Faculty of Medicine University of Ostrava announces a selection procedure for position:

  • Specialist - Bioinformatician with a focus on software and web development

Expected working time:

  • 50%

Expected entry into the employment:

  • October 2023 or by an agreement

Qualification and other prerequisites:

  • MSc/PhD degree focused on bioinformatics/informatics
  • Excellent knowledge of English (communication level approximately C1)
  • Practical experience with developing bioinformatic apps and pipelines (link to Github/Gitlab repo for the software is an advantage)
  • Knowledge of Git and Github
  • Knowledge of the Conda package manager
  • Experience in biological/biomedical research
  • Knowledge of programming languages Bash, Python, R
  • Knowledge of workflow management languages Snakemake or Nextflow
  • Experience with web development and creating web applications
  • Experience working on computational clusters/supercomputers
  • Knowledge of Docker and Singularity is an advantage
  • Theoretical knowledge in molecular biology and hematology is an advantage
  • Very good organizational and communication skills
  • Reliability, thoroughness, and ability for teamwork

Description of the work position:

The bioinformatician/researcher should play a significant role in the establishment of a Bioinformatics spin-off focused on education, automated analysis of sequencing data (DNA/RNA), and software development. Among other duties, the job will involve: preparing a website for the mentioned spin-off; converting already developed pipelines from Snakemake to Nextflow and subsequent "containerization" of virtual environments ensuring maximum reproducibility; creating new pipelines; preparing bioinformatics software, its maintenance, and accompanying publications; and conducting computational analysis of sequencing data on computational clusters.
