AnotationThe theory of terminology has seen considerable development since its beginnings and the original Wüsterian theoretical approaches formulated within the framework of the general theory of terminology in the 1930s have changed significantly. Contemporary terminologists are now well aware that a term cannot be understood as an isolated, context-independent, monosemic unit, not admitting synonymy and polysemy, but that it is necessary to see it in a broader context, to perceive its variability in its full extent, its penetration into contemporary non-specialised communication and the related semantic changes that occur not only during the formation of terms themselves, but also when they are used in various types of discourse. The submitted project reflects these changes and will deal with developmental processes such as terminologisation and determinologisation, which are always associated with semantic changes (specialization or generalization of meaning). The objective of the project is to analyse the sources of the term formation in French (e. g. metaphors, borrowings), including related semantic shifts, as well as the ways of using terms in a non-specialised context, particularly in contemporary French journalistic texts, using examples of the terminology of specific selected fields (in particular from the field of natural sciences). For this purpose, corpus tools available for French will be used. Based on the results of these analyses, members of the project team will also try to describe which types of terms are the most affected by the mentioned semantic changes and for what reasons.
