AnotationThe project is based on research of manuscripts on medical themes - this research has a long tradition in Germany - and on the coordinator?s own previous research carried out mainly in Moravian archives and libraries. This research has revealed the presence of a large number of late medieval and early modern manuscripts in the Czech Republic; it has also highlighted the fact that the issues involved have been somewhat unjustly neglected by scholars of the German language. The aim of the project is to map this previously unsurveyed archive material, carry out a basic linguistic evaluation of the manuscripts, and identify works playing an important role in the development of German medical language and the medical profession in general. The resulting collection of manuscripts, accompanied by editorial notes and studies, will be interdisciplinary, overlapping particularly with medical and pharmaceutical history. The project also represents a contribution to our knowledge of professional contacts and intercultural exchanges between the Czech and German provinces.
