AnotationMycotis sinusitis is a relatively rare inflammatory disease of the paranasal sinuses. In recent years, its occurrence has an increasing tendency, and this issue is gaining on its importance. The majority of mycotic sinusitis is bounded. Non-invasive forms of mycotic sinusitis are divided into two forms - mycetoma and allergic fungal sinusitis. Mycetoma (fungus ball) usually affects only one sinus, most often the maxillary sinus. The diagnosis of mycotic sinusitis is problematic, therefore, with the increasing number of patients, it is essential to improve the diagnostic process. Nowadays, the suspicion of mycotic sinusitis is based on the patient's symptoms and endoscopic findings in nasal cavity. In some cases, we can observe non-specific findings such as smelling secretions from nose, a feeling of stuffy nose and pain over the affected sinus. Some patients may be completely asymptomatic. Only in some cases, we can observe fungal masses in the middle nasal passage. CT scan of paranasal sinuses ig gainign more and more importance. On CT scan, we can observe opacification of affected sinus, central hyperdensities are also present in most patients, but they are not specific and they can mimic a foreign body. Identification of the chemical elements that form hyperdensities could help to make a more specific diagnosis of fungal sinusitis. Finding the composition of hyperdensities appears to be a major possible advance for improving the diagnosis of fungal sinusitis, which could favorably influence the treatment of patients.
