AnotationThe project entitled 'The analysis of the language of persuasion and manipulation in new digital genres' reflects on the current situation in communication and (dis)information dissemination in the online environment while drawing on current trends in linguistic research on computer-mediated communication. More specifically, the project explores the language of persuasion and manipulation in new digital genres typically characterised by their multimodal character, such as hauls (i.e. videos in which the speaker presents and evaluates the products they purchased), fake news online articles, which prove to be effective in disseminating disinformation, and social media posts (i.e. microposts) shared by celebrities and other influential users. As the strategies of persuasion and manipulation in this linguistic material have so far attracted only a limited attention of linguists, this project aims to expand this line of research, particularly due to its impact on our every-day life and forms of interaction online. The research outcomes of this project will include 3 journal articles, 3 conference presentations (two in the Czech Republic, one abroad) and parts of two MA theses.
