AnotationExpected results will help us understand how to control and predict the formation of hybrid nanocomposites based on ZnO with multifunctional abilities, i.e., simultaneous disinfection and photocatalytic degradation of organic contaminants as well as the removal of heavy metal ions from wastewater. It is important to note that ICT complexes between ZnO and small organic aromatic compounds have other applications besides photocatalysis and antibacterial activity. Surface-modified ZnO nanoparticles' multifunctionality opens the door to a variety of applications, including photocatalysis, biosensing, energy conversion, and antibacterial properties. As a result of this project, we anticipate new and significant findings in both the fundamental and applied knowledge fields. Regarding the fundamental investigations, we will develop novel inorganic-organic hybrid composites consisting of ZnO nanoparticles functionalized with benzene derivatives having absorption extended to the visible spectral region. The results should demonstrate a distinct relationship between the optical properties of ICT complexes formed between surface Zn atoms and ligands of the catecholate-, salicylate-, and phenolate types. At least two publications in prestigious scientific journals and presentations at conferences will serve as proof of the obtained outcomes. The suggested synthetic processes are eco-friendly and green. The project's findings will also be made available to the public to raise awareness of the significance of environmentally friendly technologies. In order to develop multifunctional inorganic-organic hybrids for effective wastewater treatment, such as the removal of organic contaminants, heavy metal ions, and microbial species, we anticipate that the extensive investigation highlighted in the proposal will be combined with the existing expertise of research teams in this field.
