AnotationBlood cancers, especially multiple myeloma, are still incurable despite advances in treatment. The project will focus on the study of tumor properties that contribute to the malignant transformation of cells and their tolerance by the human immune system. Despite constant scientific advances, many interactions between tumor cells and other cell types are not known, as are many mechanisms of drug resistance. In this proposal we will focus on the general principles of regulation of signaling between the tumor cell and immunity (T-lymphocytes), we will examine the influence of a potential tumor marker nestin, whose expression correlates with disease aggressiveness, but its specific role in the malignant process of multiple myeloma is not. still known. Our final goal will be to elucidate changes in the gene expression profile in cells that are resistant to treatment with the immunotherapeutic agent daratumumab. The project is based on current research activities of Blood Cancer Research Group of the University of Ostrava. The main output of the project will be scientific publications and the knowledge gained within the project will help to apply appropriate anti-cancer therapy in the future.
