AnotationThe COVID-19 disease pandemic is a severe global problem that severely increases morbidity and mortality of the population and is highly demanding on healthcare systems of individual countries. Disease pathogenesis is mostly based on direct tissue damage, immune system dysregulation, and a hypercoagulation state, which leads to micro- and macrovascular organ thrombosis followed by their dysfunction or failure. COVID-19 associated coagulopathy is an indicator of increased mortality, especially in patients with a severe form of the disease. Currently, no effective specific treatment exists, therefore we focus on symptomatic and supportive therapy. Early anticoagulant therapy can play a significant role in reducing the risk of coagulopathy, organ damage and mortality.
