AnotationChordomas are among tumorous bone diseases and are formed from embryonic remains chorda dorsalis (notochord) tissue. Chordomas are among the slowly growing aggressive tumors, which are often resistant to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy and tend to local invasiveness and recurrence. This makes the prognosis of patients with the chord bad. Although they were chordomas intensively studied histologically, very little is known about molecular mechanisms that are responsible for their development. The proposed project is focused on study of genetic changes in patients with chordoma. Molecular knowledge obtained profiling of chordomes can serve as potential prognostic and predictive values in the future markers in personalized molecular therapy of the tumor using targeted biologic therapy. The aim of the project will also be to familiarize students with basic molecular biology methods used in the diagnosis of tumors. Students involved in the project will participate data processing under the professional guidance of the academic staff of the submitted project.
