AnotationThe project concentrates on the monitoring of philosophical thinking around the year 1000, especially in the context of thinking of Gerbert of Aurillac, maybe better known as a pope Sylvester II. This very original church representative was active in many of scientific and philosophical disputations in his times, a lot of them were inspired by him, and he is one of the most famous thinkers of the end of the 10th century. This research doesn?t concentrate only on this man, but the project wants to focus an ancient and the early medieval resources of thinking in those times or influential debates among contemporary persons in those times too. Gerbert will be shown as a very important thinker of developing and establishing early scholastic philosophy and science at the end of the 10th century. The main topics of this project will be linked primarily to the situation on the field of the seven liberal arts: for example dialectics and grammar (including relations to metaphysics, semantics etc.), mathematical disciplines of quadrivium or astronomy (astrolabus, computus etc.).
