The course aims to provide students with inspirational and solid linguistic background for up-to-date ELT: it presents text as an essential unit of communication, which is inseparable from linguistic and extra-linguistic context, explores the principles of text structuring and the ways it functions in communication, and the factors influencing its comprehension and interpretation by the addressee. Students get acquainted with a range of approaches towards text analysis investigating authentic written as well as spoken discourses in a variety of styles and genres. The choice of linguistic material corresponds with the needs of prospective English language teachers and teaching practice.
