Annotation:Work plays an important role in human life and in society: it has often been taken as a symbol of personal value: work provides status, economic security and can help to develop one's personality. But work can also embody opposite experiences: work can be used as a punishment, work can divide societies into workers and employers, work can be exploitative and deepen inequality. Work and its ambiguous nature is the central topic of the course which considers work not only as paid labour in factories or offices but also as unpaid domestic labour. This understanding shows the link between employment and the domestic sphere and incorporates the role of gender, ethnicity and class as well. The course will be held in English. Czech speaking students can write their seminar work also in Czech.
