Annotation:Intercultural communication or cross-cultural communication belongs to the soft skills, which are getting in our globalized world more and more important. In this course students will be introduced to the theoretical and practical basics of intercultural communication: On theoretical level participants become acquainted with the most important concepts of culture and communication used in social sciences, the practical part of the course should help the students to understand better inter and cross-cultural complexity and should cultivate their awareness of their own and others´ cultural identities. By dint of practical exercises the students discuss about (cultural) values, norms, communication styles and social rules. The aim of the course is to build up the students´ intercultural competence and prepare them for the meeting with other cultures in different contexts. Part of the course is continuous student performance assessment. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This course can include a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) cooperation with our partner University of Central Arkansas, USA (or another university). You will cooperate in the frame of the project for five weeks with a group of students from a foreign university under the supervision of their teacher. Together we are going to work on an international project and assigments which you are going to present at the end of the COIL period. This type of international learning is quite new at the university of Ostrava (the first COIL course ran in the summer semester 2022) and it is important that you are willing to cooperate with the American and foreign students during the semester. The language of the cooperation is English.
