Annotation:The aim of the course is to equip students with a comprehensive overview of the history of music in the period 1600-1900, creating the basis for follow-up subjects of concrete character and narrower focus. The basis is a chronological axis of the factoid, supplemented by excursions into specific manifestations of period musical thinking (music theory), sociology, functional context, territorial grounding, evolution of organology, etc. Various perspectives on the periodisation of history, a critical assessment of the contribution of particular trends, personalities and works are also part of the teaching. The course also includes an overview of the history of Czech music in the defined period. The lectures include an audio-visual demonstration of selected musical works.
