Course title:Evolution of plants and their interaction
Faculty:Faculty of Science
Department:Department of Biology and Ecology
Course code:KBE / WEPTI
Credits:5
Semester:Winter
Level of study:Mgr.
Format of study:Lecture 2 [Hours/Week]
Name of the lecturer:Dr. Bojana Stojanova (G)
Language:English
ISCED F broad:
Annotation:The goal of the lecture is to provide an oversight of the evolution of plant interactions across different scales and ecosystems with different outcomes/consequences for the plants: from all aspects of plant reproduction that require interaction with pollinators and mating partners, to competition within and between species, to pathogenic and symbiotic interactions with all types of organisms including humans. The accent will be put on the evolutionary dynamic aspect of the interactions, including an introduction to the main evolutionary principles (stochastic vs random evolution, evolutionary convergence, selective pressure, coevolutionary dynamic). The lectures will be in a format that is suitable for interactive and autonomous learning, with study material prepared for the purpose of the class (video, exercises, further reading materials) available online.
