AnotationParkinson's disease (PN) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases. The incidence of PN increases with age. Due to the aging trend of the population, the demand for health care for these patients will increase. The available PN therapy is currently only symptomatic, without any causal treatment. The symptoms of PN disease gradually deepen and worsen and make it more expensive and difficult to provide health care to patients with this disease. Given that environmental factors are associated with the majority of PN cases, it is important to understand the role that nutrition plays in the prevention and therapy of the disease. The subject of this research in terms of neuroprotective nutrition is the Mediterranean diet (MD). MD is a diet specific to the peoples of the Mediterranean coast, based on fruits and vegetables, cereals, legumes, olive oil as a basic source of fat, fish and a limited amount of meat, dairy products and red wine. The main goal of the project is to modify MD basics in accordance with current knowledge in the field of neuroprotective nutrition, apply the findings in the form of nutritional intervention in the Nutritional Counseling Center of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava for patients at risk of Parkinson's disease and diagnosed Parkinson's disease, and examine the effect of nutritional intervention on eating habits, body composition, subjective assessment of the quality of life and adherence to the nutrition intervention. Another goal is to focus the nutritional intervention on compensating for the symptoms associated with food intake in patients diagnosed with the disease and to evaluate its effect. Th?s project can be beneficial for improving the quality of life of patients with PD or people at risk of developing the disease. The results of the project can serve as a basis for the development of health and nutritional care for patients with PN in the Czech Republic.
