Assistant professor with focus on Fine Arts and Art Theory of the 20th Century

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava announces a selection procedure, ref. number: OU-169457/25-2025, to fill an academic position of:

  • Assistant professor with focus on Fine Arts and Art Theory of the 20th Century

Expected starting date:

  • January 2026, or by agreement.

Working hours:

  • full-time: 100 %.

Language in which the selection procedure will be conducted:

  • Czech.

Salary:

  • according to the Internal Wage Regulations of the University of Ostrava: 6th wage tariff.

Job description:

  • teaching disciplines in bachelor's and master's study programmes, including supervising and opposing theses, and participating in the development of these study programmes;
  • participating in the doctoral study programmes (in case of approval by the scientific council of the faculty);
  • teaching courses – scope of direct teaching on a long-term average is usually 10-14 hours per week per semester;
  • participating in creative activity – especially in the form of solving complex research tasks, active publication activity in peer-reviewed journals, participating in scientific conferences, presentation of the results of creative activity;
  • participating in the third role of the university – especially in the form of popularizing creative activity, in the administration connected with the performed activity and in the self-government of the university.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Art history;
  • Ph.D. degree in Art history, in case of ongoing doctoral studies, the condition is its completion (including passing the state doctoral examination) by 31st December, 2025;
  • EU research level: R2 – Recognized;
  • research and teaching focus in the theory and history of visual culture, overlaps between 20th-century fine arts and other fields (film, literature, natural sciences);
  • relevant publication activity in the field of 20th-century fine arts;
  • potential for further academic growth;
  • knowledge of the English language at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
  • knowledge of the Czech language at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
  • experience in dealing with grant projects an advantage;
  • proactive approach, systematic and independent;
  • excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • civil and moral integrity.
