The Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Ostrava announces a job vacancy
- VP2 (BFY) Leader/Excellent Researcher 2 in the LERCO project (m/f)
The open vacancy is announced within the framework of the Life Environment Research Center Ostrava (LERCO), reg. no. CZ.10.03.01/00/22_003/0000003), Research Program 2 (Biochemical and biophysical methods of living systems analysis), Part 2 - Biophysics, Main Activity 2 (New methodical approaches for assessment of oxidative stress in biological systems).
For applicants with a suitable academic profile and pedagogical experience, it may also include a systematized position as an academic staff member in the Department of Physics.
Type of systemized position:
- Researcher III (non-academic position) or Associate Professor/Full Professor (academic position)
Expected start date:
- 1st of January, 2025 (or as agreed)
Estimated amount of work:
- 50 % (or as agreed)
Qualifications and other requirements
- Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, or similar areas
- At least 10 years of experience in research
- EU research level: R3 – Established or R4 – Leading (research group)
- English language skills at level B2 or higher
- Excellent scientific performance in the fields of biophysics, experimental biology and plant physiology, molecular biology, or in the area of omics (with a focus on plants)
- A significant number of publications in high-quality, internationally recognized scientific journals (D1, Q1) as the first or corresponding author; at least 60 publications in journals with impact factor, at least 1500 citations, and an h-index of at least 25 according to WoS
- Extensive knowledge of biochemistry, physiological effects and the role of ROS in living systems, with a preferred focus on plant stress physiology in the context of global climate change (ROS formation, damage and signalling, oxidative stress protection etc.)
- Expert (preferably practical) knowledge of selected methods for the detection and qualitative and quantitative analysis of ROS, their interaction products with proteins/DNA/lipids, or other oxidative stress markers
- Experience in leading scientific projects (principal investigator of projects of the national grant agencies, principal investigator/co-principal investigator of international projects)
- Active international cooperation (documented by internships at foreign workplaces, participation in international projects, joint publications)
- Proven experience in leading research teams, supervising Ph.D. students
Job description/responsibilities
- Defining the research direction for Research Program 2, Part 2 – Biophysics, Main activity 2 (RP2-Biophysics-MA2) and leading the research team that is focused on the study of reactive oxygen species (ROS), manifestations of oxidative stress and the role of antioxidant defense mechanisms in living systems (mainly in plants)
- Expert supervision of expanding the portfolio of methods for direct and indirect determination of the presence of ROS, ROS-induced oxidation products of biomolecules and other markers of oxidative stress in biological systems; integration of these methods into the research ongoing within RP2-Biophysics, as well as other RPs of the LERCO project
- Initiation and coordination of research projects (project proposal preparation, leading role in project solving)
- Strengthening and expanding of international collaboration
- Active publication activity; supervision and coordination of the publication activity of members of the RP2-Biophysics-MA2 team
- Supervision of postdocs and Ph.D. students involved in solving RP2-Biophysics-MA2 projects
- Coordination of scientific activities of MA2 members with other units within RP2 and teams of other RPs (especially RP1 and RP6)
- Responsibility for the outputs and fulfillment of indicators for RP2-Biophysics-MA2
- In the case of expanding the position to an academic staff member, the supervision of doctoral and master´s theses and leading courses for doctoral studies
