Scientometry: Publication strategies and supportive IT tools in science (WS)
What should you look for when choosing a journal to publish your article in? What constitutes a high-quality publication, and where can this information be found? Who are the leading experts in your field, and how can you identify them? What is the purpose of ORCID or ResearcherID, and what are the benefits of having a Google Scholar profile? Information technology provides researchers with a variety of resources that can aid them in connecting research groups, establishing a suitable publishing approach, or assisting in the creation of articles. This course will guide you through understanding publishing strategies and will teach you how you can utilise several tools that the modern scientist may find useful.
Presented by doc. Mgr. Pavel Drozd, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for Research and Doctoral Study, Faculty of Science
Increasing Pedagogical Skills (WS/SS)
Are you looking for the teaching or supervising theses? Do you seek guidance on effectively transferring knowledge and developing your students' skills in the process? Are you wondering how to communicate more effectively in the classroom? Look no further! Enrol in this course, specifically designed for doctoral students and aspiring teachers. Together, we'll explore strategies for maintaining students' attention, motivating them to prepare for class, and crafting engaging questions. Thanks to the guidance of this course´s seasoned educators, you will be able to learn all this and much more.
Academic Writing (SS)
It is a common misconception that writing an article is akin to writing a diploma thesis. In reality, composing scientific articles for peer-reviewed journals is a specific skill that demands compliance with various guidelines and general practices, many of which are often essential for paper acceptance. Furthermore, not all of these guidelines are detailed in standard reference materials. If you aspire to conduct high-quality research and achieve great results, this course will serve as an excellent foundation.
Presented by Mgr. et Mgr. Jan Beneš, Ph.D., Faculty of Arts
Methodology of Qualitative Research (SS)
Are you interested in delving deeper into a specific social phenomenon and exploring how it operates within society at large or in interpersonal relationships? Do you want to understand the motivations behind human actions and how these can be rationalised? Would you like to identify and analyse the viewpoints of various participants in a given social context, focusing on their interpretations of social reality or their narratives surrounding a specific event? If so, qualitative research may be the right approach for you. It's important to note that qualitative research is neither inherently superior nor inferior to quantitative research; they simply serve different purposes and can even complement each other effectively. Throughout this course, you will learn about qualitative research methodologies. You will gain clarity on how to align your research problem, objectives, and questions with a qualitative strategy, as well as on how to select the right approaches, analysis techniques, and data collection methods for your project.
Presented by prof. Mgr. Soňa Kalenda Vávrová, Ph.D., Faculty of Social Studies
Methodology of Quantitative Research (SS)
Research goes beyond merely gathering data, whether numerical or otherwise; that is merely the initial phase. The subsequent phase, which is vital to any research project, involves processing, interpreting, and effectively presenting that data. Furthermore, seasoned researchers will emphasise that a solid grasp of quantitative analysis methodology is essential even during the research design and data collection stages. A crucial skill is the ability to choose the right method and accurately interpret its outputs. If you're eager to deepen your understanding of quantitative data collection, research design, data processing, and crafting high-quality presentations, this is the course for you.
