FAQ

I have submitted my CV for a job opening – when can I expect feedback about the next round?

Thank you for your interest in joining our team at the University of Ostrava! We appreciate your application.

After the application deadline, the selection committee will review all submitted CVs and other required documents. If you are selected for the second round, we will contact you – usually within 3 weeks after the application period has ended.

If you are not invited to the second round or not selected for the position, you will receive a notification after the selection procedure is completed. Please note that this message is sent only once the procedure has ended, so there may be a longer delay.

At the University of Ostrava, selection procedures usually take place in two rounds. The first round involves the assessment of submitted documents. The second round is a personal or online interview with selected candidates. The online form is used if a personal meeting is not possible (for example due to geographical distance or other reasons).

I have been invited to the second round of the selection procedure – what should I expect?

The second round of the selection procedure usually takes the form of an online meeting and interview. You will be asked about your experience, knowledge and skills related to the offered position.

Practical details – such as how much time you should reserve for the interview and a link to join the (online) interview – will be provided when you are contacted by the HR department.

Will the selection procedure include a research presentation or a teaching demonstration?

The standard format of the second round is an interview focused on clarifying the job responsibilities, your experience, and your motivation for applying for the position.

A research presentation or a teaching demonstration is not usually part of the interview, unless specifically requested by the selection committee.

How to Shine in the Recruitment Process at the University of Ostrava

Who will be present at the interview?

The interview is conducted by the selection committee responsible for the given position.

In the case of selection procedures for academic or research positions, at least one member of the committee is an external expert – that is, a person who is not employed by the University of Ostrava.

I cannot attend the interview – is it possible to arrange an alternative date?

Setting an alternative interview date depends on the decision of the selection committee. Please note that an alternative date may not always be offered.

I have attended the second round (interview) – when will I know the result?

You will be informed about the outcome of the selection procedure within 14 days at the latest by email.

Can I apply if I do not meet one of the qualification requirements?

Yes, you can apply even if you do not meet all of the qualification requirements. However, please note that the assessment of candidates is based on the internal job catalogue, which defines certain (basic) requirements.

Not meeting some of the qualification criteria may affect the evaluation of your application and, as a result, the final outcome of the selection procedure.

Do I have to use a specific application form?

Please respond to the job advertisement by sending an email to the address provided in the advertisement.

Is it possible to send an application after the deadline?

No, the application must be submitted by the deadline specified in the job advertisement. If the advertisement states that the deadline includes the last day, you can submit your application on that day as well. Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.

How is foreign education recognized?

Foreign education is assessed individually in accordance with applicable legislation. Based on this assessment, the education may be recognized as equivalent to the required qualifications, or it may not.

If I accept a job offer for the position – will the university help me with visa/residence permit arrangements?

Yes, if you do not have Czech citizenship, the HR department will assist you with the formalities needed to start your employment at the university.

Is it possible to get help with finding accommodation?

The university offers temporary accommodation in a partner apartment facility for foreign employees, subject to availability. If space is available, HR will offer it to you before your arrival. If the apartment is full, HR will provide contacts for alternative providers offering discounted short-term accommodation. This can be used while you search for long-term housing. We recommend that you also start looking for accommodation on your own as soon as possible to ensure a smooth and comfortable move to Ostrava. Additionally, we can provide you with contacts that may help you find long-term accommodation.
