The Rector of the University of Ostrava announces a selection procedure for filling the position of:

  • Postdoctoral Fellow within the "Global Postdocs" programme

We are looking for applicants for postdoctoral research positions interested in working at the University of Ostrava. The University of Ostrava is the 2nd largest university in the Moravian-Silesian region. It is formed by six faculties and one research institute. The University offers a wide scope of studies covering humanities, social and natural sciences, medicine, pedagogy and fine arts.

Job description

A postdoctoral fellow is mainly involved in the independent solution of complex research/development project tasks, in the initiation of other research projects or contractual cooperation projects of a smaller scale (e.g. junior grants), in collaboration within a research team and with foreign researchers, in active publishing activities according to the requirements of the field and in accordance with the requirements of the OU (University of Ostrava) standards and in securing research funding (submission and resolution of grants and projects).

Qualification requirements – required

  • a doctoral degree in the relevant field (Ph.D. or equivalent), which has been obtained less than 5 years ago (maternity and parental leave is not included)
  • foreign research experience (outside the Czech Republic) and related fulfilment of one of the following two conditions:
    • "Incoming" – the applicant has obtained a degree abroad, is of a nationality other than Czech, and is not a resident of the Czech Republic or has not spent more than 12 months in the Czech Republic during the 36 months preceding the application submission
    • "Re-integration" – the applicant is of Czech nationality and has substantial international experience of at least 12 consecutive months within the 36 months preceding the application submission, either in the form of doctoral studies abroad, employment at a foreign research institution, or a combination of both
  • topical compliance of the intended research project with one of the domains of the Regional Innovation Strategy of the Moravian-Silesian Region: 1) Automotive industry and mobility of the future, 2) Information technologies, 3) Metal production and processing, 4) Industrial automation and robotics, 5) Medical devices and technologies for healthcare, 6) New materials, 7) Technologies for energy production, transmission and storage, 8) Quantum technologies and computing, 9) Cultural and creative industries, 10) New solutions for societal challenges
  • knowledge of the English language, min. at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • required minimal number of publications in the publication list of the applicant according to her/his scientific field:
    • FORD1-5: at least 3 publications in WoS journals with IF;
    • FORD6: at least 4 publications (journals in WoS or Scopus, books, chapters of books, articles in reviewed conference proceedings)
  • responsible and creative approach to work
  • ability to work independently and in a team
  • moral and civic integrity

Research level

  • R2 – Recognized

The expected form of employment

  • 0.8–1.0 FTE

The duration of employment

  • selected candidates will be offered a non-academic researcher position for a period of approximately 24–30 months with the possibility of extension according to the internal conditions of the University of Ostrava

The expected start date

  • 1 April 2026 or later by agreement

The first round of the selection procedure will take place without the candidates being present in person, by examining the materials supplied by the candidates by the selection committee. Only selected candidates will be invited to the second round of the selection procedure.

The Rector of the University of Ostrava reserves the right not to select any candidate or to cancel, suspend or extend the selection procedure without giving any reason.

In case your project is not selected as successful for support within the Star-up grant, there could be an opportunity to employ you in another position within the University of Ostrava.
