Job description

  • Teaching in bachelor′s and master′s study programmes, including supervising and opposing theses, and participating in the development of these study programmes; the scope of direct teaching for a full-time position is usually 10–14 hours per week per semester on a long-term average
  • Participating in creative activity – especially in the form of solving complex research tasks, active publication activity in peer-reviewed journals, participating in scientific conferences, presentation of the results of creative activity
  • Participating in the third role of the university – especially in the form of popularizing creative activity, in the administration connected with the performed activity and in the self-government of the university

Qualification requirements – required

  • Master′s degree in English, or in a related field
  • PhD degree in English linguistics, or in a related field; in the case of ongoing doctoral studies, the condition is its completion (including passing the state doctoral examination) by 31st July, 2026
  • Research and teaching focus on English linguistics
  • Active scientific and publishing activity in the field
  • Knowledge of the English language at C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Knowledge of the Czech language at B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Civil and moral integrity
  • Independent, responsible and proactive approach to work

Qualification requirements – preferred

  • Experience in dealing with grant and scientific research projects
  • Experience in teaching corpus linguistics
  • Experience in translation studies
  • Potential for further academic growth

Research level

  • R2 – Recognized

The expected form of employment

  • part-time: 50 % – full-time: 100 %

The expected start date

  • 1st September 2026 (or later by agreement)

  • According to the Internal Wage Regulations of the University of Ostrava: 6th wage tariff + individual bonus

Information about the selection procedure

The first round of the selection process will involve the (internal) assessment of the applicants′ materials conducted by a selection committee.

Only selected applicants will be invited to take part in a second round of interviews.

The employer reserves the right to extend, interrupt, or cancel the selection process, as well as to decide not to accept any of the candidates without stating the grounds for this decision.
