Annotation:The goal of the course is to get familiar with common GIS software and also to understand the theoretical concepts in geographic information science. After completing this course, you should be able to use almost any common GIS software. The course is suitable for geography students as well as students from other disciplines where geographic data are in use. Course itself is divided into two parts: lectures, which will introduce the theory of GIS science and lab exercises where skills for processing geographic data in software are acquired. The lectures cover a range of topics including concepts, data, tools and selected analysis. During the laboratory sessions, students will learn to integrate various geographic and statistical data into GIS and utilize a range of tools for data processing, classification, analysis, visualization, and interpretation, all of which are necessary to complete the assignments.
