Annotation:Mass movements are powerful geomorphological processes and one of the most damaging and deadly of natural hazards. In recent decades, boom in the physical sciences, mapping technologies, monitorng and computational power have greatly advanced our understanding of the causes, triggers and mechanics of mass movements. The main aims of the course is to present theoretical background of slope stability, main causes and triggers of mass movements and provide insight to the mechanisms of individual categories of mass movements. Discussed are also implications of mass movements for landscape evolution, natural hazards and relationships with recent climatic changes. Modern methodical approaches for investigation of mass movements are presented and students do several practical exercises concerning basic slope stability calculations, landslide mapping, detection and modelling.
