| Annotation: | Mandatory Harpsichord 4 is an additional study subject of Piano specialization within the Instrumental Play study programme. Inidvidual tutorials focus on deepening student´s knowledge of instrument possibilities range and the ability to get practical insights in harpsichord play. Being able to step up in mastering of harpsichord play and transfer skillfully the knowledge and competence into performing Baroque works on piano in Piano major programme is the main target of this course. The sole act of studying harpsichord and chamber music harpsichord repertoire brings student into the close proximity of the most distinguished interpretation traditions and approaches of this specialization. At the same time, he/she gets insights into specific features of so called "learned interpretation". By studying selected repertoire, the student gets acquainted with harpsichord technical range of possibilities, its sound and dynamic aspects and can familiarize himself/herself about ways of creation and playing various melodic ornaments in Baroque works of different time periods and places of origin. Specific features of harpsichord works of the best-known world composers are being brought to student´s attention. First semester will see elimination of technical imperfections (if the student displays any) and gradual improvement in developing his/her technical playing foundations. Individual musical expression with emphasis laid on student´s own artistic creativity is sought. Upon completion of this course the student shall be equipped with basic technical and interpreting prowess needed for quality rendering of less demanding and smaller-in-scale musical repertoire with comparison to students majoring in harpsichord. Requirements: Mastering of basics of harpsichord play Reading principal harpsichord literature and getting acquainted with its technical and artistic nuances Knowledge of various Baroque interpretation styles Selected programme performance in front of examination committee for commission credit Content: Individual seminars´ detailed content is based on selected repertoire Examples of adequate repertoire: Study of solo repertoire based on technical and expression levels of the student (selection): J.S.
