Annotation:The key motivation for the course is to invite international students at Ostrava University to use their potential in the sense of their cultural background and experience in a joint project of intercultural communication. The course aims to help students (in international or local-international teams) design and realise interactive programmes for pupils and students at secondary and high schools in Ostrava. The programmes should present children with opportunities to meet different cultures in a way not regularly offered by school, or media. Rather than focussing on basic information about cultural events, or traditional festivals, the projects will provide the participants with an insight into the everyday life in families, with friends, and at school, into the respected values (in relation to relationships and family ties, work, education, nature etc.) and norms of social behaviour, interests and shared knowledge and experiential background. An important part of the project is to show how cultures preceive other cultures, including the Czech environment, and what the implications are for cooperation. The project should get all the participants involved and make them realise the values and norms inherent to their home culture, which may and may not be valid cross-culturally.
