AnotationThe three-year project stems from the complex attention the applicant pays to the development of medieval devotion and Christian ethics. It focuses on changes in the perception of woman, and on the role she plays as a receiver of sermon, a subject of moral reforms and a partner in pastoral care and catechesis. It is built on heuristics, content analysis, and textual comparison of Czech homiletics with the vernacular, woman-oriented literature. The results will be confronted with foreign research. The project will put together results from the Czech beguine houses, subjecting these to criticism; at the same time, it will try to capture a wider context including also the visual and cultural sources portraying life in communities of religious women. It will extend the resources with homiletics, and will provide a systemic view of a woman ? beguine, of her activity and passivity in religious teaching, catechesis, and pastoral education in general. The results will get published, as they emerge, in specialized papers, being, finally, collected in a comprehensive monograph.
