AnotationThe lower clergy represents a part of the early modern society of the Czech Lands, which has not been studied enough yet. In contrast, foreign researchers have been examining the early modern development of this group for a long time. They apply the concept of professionalization of clergy and analyse the dynamic of the early modern transition from the original medieval estate to a modern profession. The proposed project aims to employ the concepts and methods of these papers to investigate the topic of careers, social and economic conditions of the early modern clergy using the example of a representative sample of one hundred priests, who worked between 1740s and 1780s in the Diocese of Olomouc. The research will be based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis of entries of printed and handwritten catalogues of clergy, inheritance documents and other supplementary sources.
